In the Bhagavad Gita the Hindu bible, Lord Krishna says, Work done as a sacrifice for Vishnu has to be done, otherwise work causes bondage in this world. Therefore, perform your prescribed duties for His satisfaction, and in that way you will always remain free from bondage.
Just like if you are walking down a road and see a wallet with money sticking out.
There are three ways you could react:
1)You could pick it up, put it in your pocket and run to the nearest music store.
2)You could just leave it there.
3)You could pick it up, find out who it belongs to and return it to them.
In the same way we are walking down the road of life and we see so many goodies.
There are three ways we could react.
1) We can "take the goodies and run" Do everything we can to exploit this world to promote our own sense of prestige and enjoyment.
2) We can leave the world alone-give up everything-throw everything away.
Clearly, the second approach is better than the first. But still, it is incomplete. If I walk into your house and say, "I renounce your car and your house!" You will look at me like I am crazy. Similarly, when someone says "I renounce this world and everything in it" – well that's great, but guess what, it was not yours in the first place.
3) The third option is to pick the wallet up, find out who it belongs to, and return it to them.
This world belongs to the Supreme Person so let me return it to Him by using whatever I have in His service, for His pleasure. Jesus himself instructed us to live in this world but not to live of it. That is to say that we will only be truly balanced and free when we acknowledge that God is the proprietor of everything and all things can be used in his service. By serving the Supreme, we will also naturally want to serve our fellow man.
